A Chinese App for Advanced Learners Who've Outgrown the Beginner Apps

A Chinese app for advanced learners has to hold up past HSK 5, where most apps stop. Chenjin's library runs to HSK 7 essays, news-style pieces, and literary fiction, retells Journey to the West and the Three Kingdoms at HSK 5 and 6 with audio, and lets you upload any book or PDF and read it with the same tap dictionary, sentence view, and flashcards.

Texts that go up to HSK 7

Filter the library to HSK 6 and 7 and you get essays, commentary, news-style reporting, and fiction, each with a familiarity meter so you can tell a text with ten new words from one with eighty. Every article has audio and a sentence-by-sentence translation you reveal only when you want it.

The classics, at a level you can read

Journey to the West is retold in twelve HSK 5 chapters and the Battle of Red Cliffs from the Three Kingdoms in twelve at HSK 6, with painted covers, audio, and chapter-by-chapter vocabulary stats. They're the bridge between graded material and the originals.

Bring your own reading

Upload an EPUB, a PDF, pasted text, or audio with a transcript and it's segmented into a private lesson with the full reader: tap dictionary, pinyin on hover, sentence view, flashcards. That's how an advanced learner reads a native novel or a work document without a separate popup-dictionary tool. Audio without a transcript can be auto-transcribed on the Pro plan.

Keep the output sharp too

Sentence view with the translation hidden is a translation drill; voice dictation has you speak a sentence back and grades the characters you dropped; the Tone Coach catches the tones that slipped years ago. These are Plus plan features, with a 7-day trial.

Frequently asked questions

How much HSK 6 and 7 material is there?

More than a hundred library articles at each of HSK 6 and 7, plus the two classic retellings, and the library grows every month. Private uploads are available on every plan, so your own books extend it.

Can I import the words I already know?

Yes. Paste or upload a word list, or set your Mandarin Blueprint level, and every match is marked known so the reader only highlights what's new.

Is there anything for classical Chinese?

No. The classics are retold in modern Mandarin. Classical grammar and vocabulary are outside the platform's scope.
