Are the tone colors customizable?
Yes. Tone coloring is off by default; turn it on in Settings and pick from three presets or set your own five colors. It then applies everywhere pinyin appears, from the reader to the games.
Do I have to learn to handwrite?
Only if it helps you. Stroke order animations build recognition either way, and the free practice sheet generator prints grid worksheets whenever drawing the characters sounds appealing.
Is there video study?
