A Daily Chinese Practice App Where the Habit Is Reading

A daily Chinese practice app should give you one clear thing to do today and a record of having done it. In Chenjin that thing is reading: open an article at your level, tap what you don't know, mark what you do. The dashboard's activity heatmap colors in the day, the review badge tells you what's due, and the mobile app covers the days when the desk never happens.

One article is a complete session

Library articles run from a one-minute HSK 3 piece to a seven-minute HSK 6 chapter, each with audio, pinyin on demand, and a tap dictionary. The dashboard's "pick up where you left off" link reopens yesterday's text, and the Find something to read tool suggests one you haven't read yet. Three articles a day are free, which is more than a daily habit needs.

Consistency gets its own trophies

The trophy room has a Consistency category: trophies for study-day streaks and totals, alongside Mastery, Popularity, and Vocabulary. Streaks are counted from activity days, not from a timer, so a quick review session on the phone keeps a day alive. Nothing is lost when you miss one; the heatmap just shows a gap.

The phone fills the gaps

The mobile app has the library, your review queue, and the Tone Coach, synced with the website, so a waiting room or a commute counts. The games hub is the easy-day option: ten minutes in a shop scenario or an escape room is still reading.

Frequently asked questions

Are there streak penalties or reminders?

No penalties and no nagging. A missed day is a blank square on the heatmap and nothing else; the review badge just shows what's waiting.

How long is a daily session?

As long as one article, typically 5 to 15 minutes, plus whatever review is due. Short, finished sessions are the habit; the app doesn't ask for more.

Does the free plan support a daily habit?

Yes: three articles a day, the free graded reader, the games, trophies, and a flashcard queue capped at 5 new cards a day. Unlimited reading and the dictation drills are part of the Plus plan.
